I’ve been waiting for this question to come along so I can answer - Yes, we were not given the green light to continue the comic past six issues. I’m turning in the script for #6 tomorrow and it will be the last issue in the regular series.
There are a lot of factors that went into this:
1. Almost all comics are pitched in short sets even if they are solicited as ongoing.

2. Comics are sold to retailers, not fans.

3. It was not digital-first.
[...]
All of that said, the reviews were good and the fan response couldn’t have made me happier. Priscilla did a brilliant job and made everything easy. Hasbro LOVED this book and it’s possible more of it could come out in the future but I can’t give out any details! Thank you all so much for posting about the comic, sending me questions and letting me get to know you.

Optimus is seen by a sort of religious figure by the colonies and he takes advantage of that with Earth which he feels should be more free.
Not all the normal Wreckers will be alive for Sins Of The Wreckers.
There is another IDW Panel tomorrow. There might be some more info about what we heard today and more (hopefully).

The storyline promises to bring in some big characters, including Headmasters, and also Sentinel Prime, who is the space shuttle we’ve seen lineart of. Hollywood Reporter are also reporting that this will be the middle chapter in a new storyline that started with Combiner Wars, and is set to conclude in 2017-18 with an as yet unnamed third chapter. The overall trilogy is being called, Prime Wars, and is being designed by Hasbro to unite toys, the IDW comics, and Machinima’s animation into a single multimedia approach.
