A strange one this chap, when I first saw the photo's I thought it looked like a pointless clunky mess and had about as much excitement for it as picking up a cold but.............when it arrived in the warehouse and I picked him out of the packing crate our love affair began
I was wrong, I viewed him as just another repaint and its genuinely not the case, this mold really works at Magnus, more so than the actual Prime Magnus mold which came off as a little bit hollow and simple. First off this version comes with a big old hammer, that's pure win in itself but along with that you also get a detachable rocket pack, 2 missiles and pivoting launchers which double up as shoulders to make Arnie jealous so all in all a nice little package.
Most fans will own the Optimus so I won't go into it too much but suffice to say he has a good level of articulation, it still suffers from slightly loose hip joints which can slide under the weight of the rocket pack if posed slightly off but its not something which has detracted from my enjoyment. The toy does evoke an Animated Wing Blade Optimus Prime feel and I for one prefer it, the rocket pack snaps in place nice and firm during either mode and is not prone to popping off like my Jet Blade does, the hammer also fits very securely in both modes and the missiles have multiple points of storage overall giving massive amounts of play value for big and little kids alike.
Truck mode has one obvious difference in that the smokestacks are absent, this is so the rocket pack can attach flush in robot mode and I didn't notice their absence until about an hour after I unpacked him. The accessories fit nice and snug on the back of the truck actually snapping into place rather than loosely pushing or balancing so your free to race him round your desk or go that one step further and pretend he is a flying truck.......................I honestly have not this.....................honest.
Overall I unexpectedly score Ultra Magnus Mark II a strong 8.5 / 10 Hammer time indeed!
