TFC Toys Photron
Its always nice when you get a toy that your not expecting a lot from and it surprises you, I'd heard mediocre things about Photron but am glad to say its a good set of figures with some nice touches, sure its got a few flaws but they are outweighed by the good. First up its super solid construction, the quality of the plastic is excellent and dare I say it outshines a few of the recent official releases from the West. Individual figure wise the two smaller guys Hi-Reso and AE lock are just a little taller than scout class with the big guy Optic Zoom being a little taller than a deluxe, he is also extremely chunky and feels quality in hand.
Articulation wise Hi-Reso and AE Lock are great, there isn't much you can't do with them thanks to ball joints nearly everywhere and waist swivels, Optic Zoom is also very articulated but suffers somewhat from being a little back heavy thanks to the kibble created by the folded up flaps and his shoulders could have done with being on a ball joint rather than hinge and swivel, that aside he is still very good and a lot better than expected.
Camera mode is superb, I walked round with it in hand today at the warehouse and one person assumed I had an actual camera with the other having to think about it, the lens is a lot of fun in that it un-clips either side then extending to create the illusion of a zoom, the lens also glows thanks to a little on / off switch uncovered when the lens is extended.
I like to get to the point during reviews and hope I have with this one, the aesthetic isn't going to be for everyone as making the connection with Reflector is difficult, there is also the back kibble on Optic Zoom which will present as a problem for some fans however if you simply like transforming toys then Photron is well worth picking up, the set has a lot to offer.
Overall he scores 7.5/10
If your in the UK and Europe you can pick up Photron now from Kapow Toys
